Approximately sixty Liberty County Republicans attended our precincts and county convention in March! Every two years, on the heels of each primary election, each county holds precinct conventions and county/senate district conventions. Beginning with precinct conventions, these gatherings - set by state law - are the very first and basic building block of political activity in our party process.
What happens at these conventions? Typically the most important aspects of convention are the selection of delegates to the state Republican convention the following summer and the resolutions passed by each county (or senate district). Counties that are split between senate districts have senate district conventions (think Harris County), while counties that fall wholly within one senate district (think Liberty County within Senate District 3) meet with just their own counties at county convention. Resolutions passed at this level are statements of policy preferences and show the direction the local party believes the Republican party as a whole - and our Republican lawmakers -ought to take in putting together policies and passing laws.
